March 2nd - March 9th

“After you've done a thing the same way for two years,

look it over carefully.

After five years, look at it with suspicion.

And after ten years, throw it away and start all over.”

Quilter's Get-A-Way 2022

With that thought in mind, it’s time to try something new at the Quilter’s Get-A-Way.  I have been offering classes at the Okoboji Retreat since the year 2000.  Because of the Pandemic we have all changed in so many ways. Some of those changes have been good for us and we learned a lot; others, maybe not so much.   It’s time for the Quilter’s Get-A-Way to make some changes too.  Therefore, I have made the decision to forego classes for the Spring Retreat.

We all are teachers in in our own way and we learn so much from each other.  How many times have you come to retreat and seen a project that someone was working on that you just had to try?  This year let us each be a teacher and share. So, if you have learned a new technique, found a pattern that you want to rave about, found a tool that is life changing or fallen in love with a quilt you can’t put down please plan on sharing it with all of us.

I would like to feature what you have been working on during the past year.  If you send me a picture of a project I will post it on the site.  Let’s see what inspires you and what wonderful things you have been up to.

Send your pictures to Rita and she will post them on this page:  ritanau@yahoo.com.

One positive result of the pandemic is many more young people are into sewing. So, I suggest you find a young person to drag along and show them the great fun quilters have together.

All That Information You Need

Sunday Night Project and a Mystery Quilt. (Kits from The Quilted Forest will be available for both) .

You may arrive anytime after 7 am Wednesday and stay through until Sunday at 2:00 pm (5 Day R Retreat) or Wednesday after brunch (8 Day Retreat).

The Quilted Forest will once again bring fabric, kits, notions and quilting supplies. Their shop will be open to the public as well as retreaters. Shelley will bring in more fabric than an addict can handle along with all sorts of kits, notions, books and patterns. D’Ann, Shelley’s side kick and traveling salesperson, will be there as well. She is quite the peddler.  You will enjoy  her many demonstrations as she travels through the quilting rooms. We appreciate all that The Quilted Forest Shop brings us. It is always so great to have them on site.

Your meals will be made for you by Chef Chad. Our menu will once again be a Brunch - Dinner meal schedule. If you have dietary concerns please let me know. All meals will be covered with the exception of the first Wednesday. We will also have a snack table so feel free to bring some treats to share with your fellow retreaters.

Pedicures, manicures, haircuts and more await you. These extras will be offered throughout the weekend. You can speak with Mindy to schedule your "prettiness" appointments.

You will need to bring linens and towels. Each room has a queen bed and several standard twins.

Show and Tell will be Saturday night . We hope you will all participate. We love to see what projects everyone has completed during the year.

We are looking forward to fun filled days, great meals and wonderful and productive sewing sessions.

Susan Brown- Our fearless leader.  Has been doing some handwork; or, as she puts it "airplane  work". She made these wool applique' ornaments and is working on her EPP project.
Rita Nau - I found a great hand project to work on.  There is now a 10" loom for those potholders we used to make as kids.  I am making matching dishcloths as well.
