The Original Mercantile

My name is Susan Brown and I design tools that make quilting a bit easier. At one time The Quilter's Mercantile was a storefront located in Mankato, MN, a 125 year old General Store that was as much an antique as the special old pieces found within.

We had bean counters for cutting tables, glass fronted oak counters, tin ceilings, all oak furnishings, and antiques everywhere. It was the antiques, I think, that set off the quilts so beautifully, blending seamlessly. Unfortunately, we had to shut our doors. But I kept manufacturing rulers and can be found pedaling them at trade shows across the nation.

My templates and tools work for beginners and experts alike. Quilters who buy my rulers use them not occasionally, but consistently. They become as important as your rotary cutter or pin cushion.

You may be familiar with the Bias Ruler and the Binding Tool, both featured and demonstrated by The Missouri Star Quilt Company. Click here to watch the videos.

We hope to see you at an upcoming show! Check out our Out and About page for a complete listing by state of shops currently carrying our merchandise, and to find out where we'll be next.   Until then, Happy Quilting!!
